Warwick v Warwick University Staff

Warwick's pre-season friendlies started on Saturday with a comfortable 8 wicket victory over Warwick University staff. The visitors batted first and got off to a comfortable start with an opening partnership of 47 between Allison (7) and Wortman (31). It was Warwick's Jack Parish that broke the batsmens defenses as his spin claimed 4 quick wickets reducing University Staff to 55 for 4. Jacobs (41) and Abbas (25) steadied the ship with a partnershiip of 52 for the 5th wicket, Captain Dave White brought himself on with 8 overs to go and took 3 wickets in as many overs to finish with figures of 3 for 15, a run-out for Parish and one wicket for Steve Webb closed Warwick University Staff's innings on 133. Parish finished with figures of 4 for 25 from his 8 overs.

Chasing, Warwick lost 2 early wickets but an unbroken partnership of 102 between Steve Burger (47no) and Jack Parish (66no) saw Warwick over the finishing line with 8 wickets and 19 overs to spare.

This saturday Warwick have a double header against Sheldon Marlborough whilst on Sunday Peugoet visit Hampton Road.

Sheldon Marlborough V Warwick

Saturday 26th April

Warwick 1st xi visited Sheldon Marloborough on Saturday and returned with a hard fought 3 wicket victory. Sheldon batted first and scored 144-6 from their 40 overs on a very soft wicket with Ali 30, Rodeau 23, Hemming 22no and Behbow 20. James Wynn-Evans 2-16 and Jack Parrish 2-28 with the wickets for Warwick.

Warwicks reply started well with Wynn-Evans 19 and Matt Hodgkin 37 and the score 59 -2 however 5 wickets fell in as many runs and the visitors were then in real trouble on 64-6. Jack Parish 52no and Paul Jackson 30no batted brilliantly to share an unbroken partnership of 66 for the 8th wicket and save the game for Warwick, passing the target with 7 overs remaining.


Warwick 2nds V Sheldon Marlborough

2nd XI
At Hampton Road the 2nd xi fell to a 7 wicket defeat. Batting first Warwick started steadily with 25 from openers John Shaw (9) and Owen Griffiths (20). At 45 for 3 in the 14th over Warwick were looking well set. Oliver Moore (7) and Marc Passey (15) shared a stand of 25 for the 4th wicket taking the score to 70. 70 for 4 quickly became 82 all out as a collapse ensued during which Andy Lippett scored 9no. Faroque was pick of the Sheldon attack running through Warwicks lower order taking 5 wickets for 3 runs.

In reply Sheldon chipped away at the target with the Warwick bowlers keeping things tight. Andy Lippett 2-16 and Anoop Babu 1-12 taking the wickets as Faroque 22no saw Sheldon home for the loss of just 3 wickets.

Warwick V Peugeot

On Sunday Peugeot were the visitors to Hampton road. Warwick batted first as Hathaway 26 and Griffiths 16 put on 40 for the first wicket, The loss of a third wicket with the score on 54 and it looked as if Warwick would be in trouble, until Danny Robbins (37no) and James Wynn-Evans (42no) shared an unbeaten stand of 95 for the 4th wicket. Torrental rain then intervened and the match was abandoned with Warwick on 149-3 in 28overs. Dottley calimed 2 wickets for Peugeot.


Warwicks League campaign starts next saturday with 4 teams in the Warwickshire cricket league set up; 1st XI @ Pickwick, 2nd XI host Pickwick 2nds, 3rd XI at Riverside Royals and 4th XI host Oakfield 3rds.

Pickwick 1st V Warwick.

Saturday 3rd May.

Warwick 1st xi got their season off to an excellent start beating their counterparts Pickwick by 7 wickets. Pickwick were dismissed for just 119 thanks to brilliant bowling by Paul Jackson who claimed 7 wickets supported by the fielders holding all their chances. There were 2 wickets for Steve Webb and one for James Wynn-Evans.

Warwick suffered an early set back losing the first wicket after just 8 balls up but after that they never looked back. Ross Briscoe 35, Adrian Passey 28no and Tim Briscoe 41no were the major contributors as Warwick passed the total with 36overs and 7 wickets to spare.

Warwick 2nd V Pickwick

Warwick 2nd xi fell to a 6 wicket defeat to Pickwick 2nd XI at Hampton Road on Saturday. Batting first Warwick struggled and were dismissed for just 118, Danny Robbins 25 and Jon Davis 13 were the only batsmen to make double figures. For Pickwick there were 3 wickets each for Ali and Khan.

Pickwick chipped away at the runs and steadily and passed the target with just 2 overs to spare. F.Ahmed 23no, A.Mahmood 21 and Z.Ahmed 15no were the major contributors with the bat. Warwick bowlers toiled, particularly Richard Rudnicki who bowled 19overs 10maidens 2wickets for just 22runs.

Riverside Royals V Warwick 3rd

Warwick 3rd XI beat hosts Riverside Royals by 9wickets. The Royals were dismissed for just 29runs, Alan Champ and Andy Jackson claimed 3 wickets each for Warwick. It took just 7 overs to pass the target with Matt Puffett finishing 19no.

Warwick 4th V Oakfield 3rd

There was a better game for Warwick 4th XI at Harbury lane against Oakfield 3rd XI. warwick batting first were looking in trouble on 54-5, but an excellent knock of 35 from Pete Hardwick and 20 from Alister Bates saw Warwick through to 144-8 from their 45overs. There were 2 wickets each for Vaughan and Maddison.

Warwick's bowlers then went to work on the destroying the Oakfield batting line up. Dave Hadley and Pete Hardwick (2wickets apiece) were abley assisted by Tom Austin who's 4 wickets ripped through the middle order, Oakfield were 35 for 8. A stand of 47 between Robinson 27 and Dawson 16no gave the visitors hope but they were eventually dismissed for 97.

Warwick V Harbury

Sunday 4th May

On Sunday Warwick hosted Harbury in a friendly match. Batting first Warwick made 173-7 from their 40overs. Clint Bowers 47 and Ross Briscoe 38 were the highlights batting whilst Neale and Russell claimed 2 wickets each for Harbury.

In response Harbury managed 143-6 from their 40 overs with Newpot scoring 62. There was one wicket a piece for Marc Passey, Adrian Passey, Esakhan Ahmedzai and Simon Hathaway and 2 run outs.
